Pop&Circumstance: The Glee is Gone

B.B. King’s most popular song of his career is entitled “The Thrill is Gone.” But I bet if B.B. whipped Lucille out and wrote the same song in the coming months, it would be called “The Glee is Gone,” of course referring to the four month-long depression America is bound to fall into now that Glee has gone on hiatus. Four months without the most original new show on TV. Four months without Rachel and Mercedes’ show-stopping numbers, Kurt’s heinously fabulous wardrobe, Finn’s abdorable stupidity, and Sue’s brilliantly biting one-liners. Not even Percocet could relieve that anguish. Continue Reading

By Michelle Martinez, Contributing Writer -

As my time in Spain nears its end, I open CNN right before sitting down to write my last column on American Politics Abroad. As I go about this part of my daily routine, I was intrigued to find that the headline of the day was actually “How is Obama being viewed in Europe?” I obviously set about to read it, and see if they’d discovered anything beyond what I had perceived in the past three or so months. Happy Election Day, everyone!

Today Massachusetts voters go to the polls to vote for their choice in the Senate primary election. This is an extremely important election, not just because it comes at a time when Congress is considering major health care reform, but also because it was previously occupied by Sen. Ted Kennedy, the lion of the Senate. Continue Reading

Hidden Shakespeare work prompts adventure in fiction

It’s almost over. Christmas break is nearly here. Just finals, and then we’ll all have a whole month to explain to our parents just how that D+ in calculus was really the teacher’s fault. It’s time to start thinking about books to read over the break — to throw out that old, dusty, book of Shakespeare and pick up a bright, shiny, new one written in modern English … mostly. Hollywood should consider female movie-goers

By Blair Thill, Alumna Contributor -

Hello all! Welcome to my very first post of “Pop and Circumstance,” a blog dedicated to all things entertainment — movies, television, music, viral videos, books and everything else created for us to enjoy. My goal is to offer witty insights and incisive critiques on the things we talk about around the proverbial water cooler. I’ve harbored a love of popular culture my entire life, obsessed with knowing TV shows, Oscar contenders, and every lyric to any pop song stuck in my head. So now that you know a little about me, I think it’s time we get down to the fun stuff.
