Union negotiators satisfied with BC’s latest offer

On Thursday, members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 615 met with Boston College administrators to further discuss a new contract, after their last contract expired on Feb. 1.

According to union sources, the latest offer is recommended by the union negotiation team for the union members to vote in favor of it. This offer is a six-year contract with a 1.5 percent wage increase the first year and a 2.5 percent raise the next. The next four years will be later determined.

Article 18, however, was altered. The second sentence, which stated that BC could not contract out, was omitted, but a clause was added stating that BC does not have the intention of replacing full-time union workers with contractors.

BC guarantees no layoffs to workers hired before Jan. 31, and layoffs and rehires for those who were hired after the date will be based on seniority.

Also, BC will be required to meet with the union quarterly to discuss what they might contract out.

Union members will most likely vote on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
