As part of the 12th Annual Arts Fest, the Arts Council held its annual awards ceremony in O’Neill Plaza on Friday. According to Claire Ruffing, A&S 11, the purpose of the awards ceremony is to recognize significant contributions to the arts at Boston College year-round.
David Quigley, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, in his address, explained the importance of the arts at BC and how the Arts Council awards ceremony helps to recognize the students who make the arts an important part of the BC experience.
Crystal Tiala, associate professor of design in the theater department, and soon-to-be chair of the Arts Council, explained how arts add life to BC. She elaborated on the challenges of following the previous chair and founder of the Arts Council, Jeffery Howe, professor in the fine arts department.
In addition to the student awards, a faculty award was given to Paul Lewis, a professor from the English department for his scholarly and teaching contributions.
