It’s a Saturday night: people are starting to pour some drinks and crank up the music in their dorms. And while the boys are ready in two seconds, the dilemma for us girls is always the same: What should I wear? While the lazy girl inside me wants to throw on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, I know that it’s socially unacceptable to go to a Mod party without showing any legs or cleavage.
I’m one of the girls who dress semi-normally when going out. I usually wear a skirt, a T-shirt and a pair of wedges, and I bring a jacket if I know I’m going to be out in the cold for a while. Then, there are those girls who don’t care whether it’s pouring rain or if there’s a blizzard outside. They still wear high heels, an extremely short and tight skirt, and a shirt or tank top that shows off the abs they got from working out at the Plex.
Now, it’s important and fun to feel sexy. But do you really think you’re going to look like hot stuff when it’s 20 degrees and pouring rain?
I’m sure most of us girls have been there, done that at one point and regretted freezing our butts off out in the snow just so that we could get into a party, or feel attractive, or get a guy. Guys absolutely don’t understand. When I talked to a few of my guy friends, they had no sympathy. One friend said, “If you’re not going to dress appropriately when it’s 15 degrees out, I’m sorry to say I’m not going to feel any sympathy for you.” Another said, “Girls in pants are sexy.”
And I’m right there with the guys. It’s easy to dress according to the weather and still look amazing. Every time I see a girl without a jacket, or wearing something suitable for 80-degree weather, I can’t help but shake my head at her poor life choice.
So, my dear ladies, double check your outfit before you head out to that Mod party. Is it going to give you frostbite? Does it reveal too much skin? Is it too sparkly like Edward Cullen? Know that you never have to overdo it with a tank top and shorts, and it’s highly recommended that you bring a jacket. And to my gentlemen, let the girls know you dig long sleeves and pants.
