This week’s winter finale of “How I Met Your Mother” brought wedding bells. That’s right, you heard me correctly. Barney and Robin are engaged! Before we get into that, let’s go back and break down this double episode because there were a lot of noteworthy moments.
In the first half of the episode, the gang discusses their “pit people,” a.k.a the people you would throw down into a pit in your basement to keep them prisoner there if you had the chance. Healthy, I know. Now, I am deeply confused about the criteria of the pit. What does one have to do to get down there? The credentials seemed to be wavering throughout the whole first half of the episode.
First, we have Ted’s pit person, his old professor who inspires him and simultaneously shoots down his dreams of being an architect at the same time, and Marshall and Lily’s college stalker friend who has been infatuated with them for years. But then, we have Patrice as Robin’s pit person because, obviously, Robin hates her. So is it love or hate? Seriously, I want to know.
In other news, Lily and Marshall leave Baby Marvin for the first time to go to the grand opening of Ted’s new building and a romantic weekend getaway, which proves to be extremely hard for them. I would just like to state that I absolutely hate it when Lily cries. I don’t think she is every more annoying than when she cries. Lily, I can’t think of anything worse to sit through during a show. I would rather watch the most graphic, violent scene on “Criminal Minds” without having a pillow to cover my eyes than to sit through an episode full of Lily’s tears. And that’s saying something.
Anyway, I’m going to gloat for a second because, if you refer to my last blog post, I accurately predicted that Patrice and Barney’s relationship existed because those two were actually planning on how to get Robin back to Barney. This is a big moment of pride for me. I need to forgive the writers for dragging us along the Robin and Barney train for the entire season because Barney’s last “play” to get Robin back was the most romantic, sweetest, untypical Barney thing ever.
Using Patrice to catch Robin totally off guard, mistletoe and rose petals on the top of the WWN building? Pure Magic. He really set the bar high for every other guy out there. I may or may not have gotten teary-eyed watching this. I’ll let you decide. If I did, they definitely weren’t as annoying as Lily’s tears. Just saying.
That leaves poor Ted, still without a girl of his own and giving his best friend the blessing of marrying the girl he’s always loved. But at least he has the architect thing going for him, right? Anyway, when the season starts up again in 2013 I’m assuming we’ll see Barney and Robin’s wedding where presumably Ted meets his future wife. So we’ll hopefully we’ll get some answers.
What do you think, is this the last season? Will Ted meet his wife? I guess we’re going to have to wait until 2013 to find out!
