Eagles to look to shake off losing ways against the Tar Heels

Boston College (9-10, 1-5 ACC)  returns home Jan. 29 to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels (13-6, 3-3 ACC) at Conte Forum.

The Eagles have lost their last four games, all against tough ACC competition and three of which were on the road. The most recent defeat came at the hands of the Virginia Cavaliers where the Eagles fell by 14 points. Prior to the Virginia loss, BC had not lost a game by more than five points in over a month of action.

UNC recently had a three game winning streak snapped by their in-state rivals, the NC State Wolfpack. The Tar Heels are experiencing a down year record-wise at 13-6 and 3-3 in the ACC, but they are among the leaders in the nation in points per game, rebounds per game and assists per game. Despite their record, the Tar Heels are a talented team and remain a serious threat in the ACC.

The matchup of the game will be BC’s sophomore forward Ryan Anderson against UNC sophomore forward James McAdoo. Anderson is having a great year, averaging 16.4 points per game on 49 percent shooting while averaging 9.1 rebounds per game. McAdoo has found similar success this season, with 14.6 points per game on 45 percent shooting and 8.4 rebounds per game. Their head-to-head play will likely dictate much of the flow and momentum throughout the game.

Sitting at 9-10 on the year, Boston College needs to find some success soon, especially if they have hopes of reaching a postseason tournament. A big win against a tough UNC opponent would be a great place to start, at it would likely propel the Eagle’s to future ACC success.

Tipoff for the game is set for 9 PM on ESPNU.
