The Original Rap a.k.a. '90s rap #TBT playlist

“What happened to the days of Nas, 2Pac and Dr. Dre?” I thought to myself as I heard “Don’t Stop the Party” by Pitbull in the Mods last weekend. Tsk tsk.

For Throwback Thursday this week, we’re bringing you all the way back to the good old days, the days of '90s rap, when stars like Ice Cube and Wu-Tang Clan revolutionized the way that we listen to music. Pitbull, “dale” just doesn’t measure up.

10) “Ice Ice Baby” – Vanilla Ice

We all know it. We all make fun of it. But we all love it. Word to your mother.

9) “Mama Said Knock You Out” – LL Cool J

Don’t you dare mention anything to LL Cool J about his comeback. Ladies may love him, but he’s not one to be messed with. Especially not in the vicinity of a boxing ring.

8) “U Can’t Touch This” – MC Hammer

Those pants. Those. Pants. This guy is a legend and he knows it. Hammer time.

7) “Gangster’s Paradise” – Coolio

And I thought I had problems.

6) “C.R.E.A.M.” – Wu-Tang Clan

It’s just plain difficult to talk about the '90s without including Wu-Tang Clan. Sorry, Wyclef Jean, but “dolla dolla bill y'all” wasn’t yours for the taking.

5) “Made You Look” – Nas

I am proud to say that I’m a slave to a page in Nas’s rhyme book. This Queens king definitely made me look, and for all the right reasons.

4) “Nuthin’ But a G Thang” – Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg

I still don’t think I know what “it” is like, but I do know that Dr. Dre is a rap god and Snoop Dogg looked so much better pre-pigtails.

3) “It Was a Good Day” – Ice Cube

It was a much better day when Ice Cube was a rapper and not the star of Are We There Yet? If only Throwback Thursday could happen every day…

2) “Juicy” – The Notorious B.I.G.

The ultimate story of rags to riches by the true legend, Biggie Smalls. May he rest in peace.

1) “Changes” – 2pac feat. Talent

And finally, you can’t do the '90s right without 2Pac, the man himself. He’s a thug, he’s a G, and all he wanted was some change in the world. We’re not worthy of your rhymes!
