Friends reunion may be a false alarm

Friends is the best television sitcom of all time. If you don’t agree I am officially disowning you as a potential friend of mine and from here on out you are dead to me.

I may possibly be Friends’ biggest fan. I own every single season on DVD. I have a shirt that reads “Dr. Drake Ramoray saved my life” (Joey’s fictional role on the soap opera Days of Our Lives). I idolize Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow and can only aspire to be even one tenth as funny and agelessly gorgeous as they are (plastic surgery may have a little bit to do with that last part but hey, the women are still flawless).

Social media sites completely exploded yesterday with the news of a possible Friends reunion season airing in 2014, and fans everywhere collectively lost their marbles. I was personally torn about the idea of a reunion season. There are pretty much two possible ways something like this could play out:

1) The whole cast comes back and the reunion is everything we’ve ever dreamed of and more. The jokes are still funny, the characters have the same flawless chemistry, and everything is right with the world. Or…

2) It sucks. I’m talking perception-altering, life-ruiningly awful.

I have reason to believe it would be the latter. How on earth could anyone expect the show to be as fresh and witty when it has been ten years since we’ve seen the entire cast together in one place? Also, they’re old now. The entire cast is well into their 40s; they would probably have to rename the show Friends Going through Midlife Crises.

However, the rumors appear to be false after all. Although one report claimed that NBC issued confirmation about the reunion season, there have been no press releases directly from NBC, or even any word whatsoever that this speculation has a shred of truth behind it.

Whether you are devastated or relieved by the probable lack of a reunion, feel free to substitute those emotions with uproarious laughter as I count down – in no particular order – some of the funniest moments from Friends’ ten amazing seasons (they were nearly impossible to pick so these are only a small handful of my personal favorites).

1. Smelly Cat

If you don’t know this song by heart, you can’t call yourself a true Friends fan.

2. Phoebe finds out about Chandler and Monica

I don’t know which is funnier: Phoebe’s reaction or the way Ross jumps into the air at the end.

3. Phoebe flirts with Chandler

Every move in my flirting arsenal has been learned from Phoebe Buffay. I still don’t understand why boys aren’t falling all over me…

4. Joey on Pyramid

Paper! Snow! A ghost!

5. Fat Monica

Before she was flawlessly beautiful and skinny, Monica was fat. And it was the single best thing to ever grace television.

6. Ross’ tan

This is exactly why I will never, ever get a spray tan.

7. PIVOT!

I’ve seen this clip over 50 times and I still laugh so hard that I cry every time.

8. Trivia game

There are literally no words to describe how funny this scene is. Just watch it and enjoy.
