Boston Calling artist preview

Boston Calling is Boston's answer to outdoor music festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza. The two-day event features artists such as Fun., Young the Giant and Andrew Bird. Here are some top songs by this year's headliners to get you ready for a weekend of music in the Bean.

1. “How to be a Heartbreaker” – Marina and the Diamonds

Welsh singer Marina Diamandis created a man-eating alter ego for her sophomore album Electra Heart as seen in her video for "How to Be a Heartbreaker."

2. “Go Outside” – Cults

Does that actor look familiar? Probably because he's James Franco's younger brother, Dave, chasing a Brigitte Bardot-esque Emma Roberts to this New York duo's catchy indie pop single.

3. “The Gambler” – Fun.

Before the men behind "We Are Young" heard their songs being featured on Glee, they wrote tunes like "The Gambler" as odes to their parents.

4. “My Body” – Young the Giant

Formerly known as The Jakes, this California band ranked #5 on Billboard's Alternative charts with the single "My Body" from their debut album.

5. “Simple Song” – The Shins

Together since the later 1990's, The Shin's single "Simple Song" discusses love in a video about a family fighting for their home deed. Family + dysfunction = classic story.

7. “Can You Tell” – Ra Ra Riot

Ra Ra Riot released their fourth album, Beta Love, this year. The video for their title single "Beta Love" is a flashback to a 1970's dance party.

8. “Fake Palindromes” – Andrew Bird

Andrew Bird's violin-based songs make him an unconventional occur, but give him a pleasantly unique sound nonetheless.

9. “Daylight” – Matt & Kim

Their video for "Daylight" features this Brooklyn duo performing in a cab, a tub, and a dumpster. Versatile.

10. “Little Talks” – Of Monsters and Men

Icelandic Indie folk group Of Monsters and Men achieved double platinum status in the U.S. for their debut single "Little Talks."
