Football has a bye week, and many SuperFans are undeniably wondering what to do with themselves during a weekend without the thrill, and sometimes anxiety, that is Boston College football.
While campus will be quiet in the absence of football, there are plenty of ways that SuperFans can go out and cheer on their Eagles. Chief among them just so happens to be a different kind of “football” that will be the feature match-up for Boston College athletics.
The men’s soccer team will face Notre Dame on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. on the Newton Campus field. The Eagles will have their hands full, as the Fighting Irish are ranked second in the nation with a 3-0-2 record and coming off a pair of 3-0 victories against Syracuse and Michigan.
Look for leading scorer Leon Brown to try to get the Irish going. The senior already has 4 goals (10 points) on the season. Goaltender Patrick Wall has served his last name well, too. The senior goalie through five games registered 20 saves and posted a .909 save percentage for the Irish.
The Eagles have had a knack for making things interesting, going into overtime in three of their first five games. Both of their overtime wins have been come-from-behind efforts. The Eagles will rely on top goal scorers Cole DeNormandie and Chris Ager to get the Eagles going offensively. The two each have scored a pair of goals. This will be a test for an Eagles team that has battled injuries throughout the young season, however, expect a healthy lineup for the Eagles come Saturday night.
This will be a huge game for BC men’s soccer. Not only are the Irish the No. 2 team in the nation, but it’s Notre Dame’s first ACC showdown with the Eagles, and beating that Catholic counterpart from the Midwest is always something to smile about.
