In the spirit of Miley Cyrus’ unexpected Led Zeppelin rendition this week, we decided to compile a top 10 list of 2014's celebrity surprise covers (thus far):
10. Ed Sheeran plays a beautiful impromptu acoustic version of Lorde’s “Royals.”
9. Passenger confirms that opposites really do attract. His cover of Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse" works surprisingly well with his vocals.
8. Ellie Goulding does justice in her cover of Kodaline’s moving song “All I Want.”
7. You may know Childish Gambino from his radio rap song "3005." But have you heard this guy sing? His talent exceeds expectations in a studio cover of “I’d Die Without You” by PM Dawn.
6. Sarah Bareilles lowers the key of Sia’s “Chandelier” during a performance in Charlottesville, VA. Only to completely NAIL IT.
5. Sam Smith never ceases to amaze, particularly in this version of Tracy Chapman’s "Fast Car" in the Radio 1 Live Lounge.
4. Chance the Rapper surprised fans at Sasquatch this summer with his take on this Ziggy Marley classic. Warning: Once you listen to this, the Arthur theme song will be in your head for at least the next 24 hours.
3. If you don’t know who BANKS is yet... get familiar! The Goddess singer delivers an incredible cover of “Are You That Somebody.”
2. The Weeknd’s version of “Drunk in Love” is the NEARLY better than the original (We still love you, Bey).
1. Wait, Blair Waldorf can sing? Leighton Meester surprised everyone with this soulful acoustic take of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.” Meester’s comes in at #1 because her simple take shocked everyone after previously auto-tuned hits, like “Good Girls Gone Bad” with Cobra Starship.
