CORRECTION: The initial version of this article stated that Modstock was slated to start at 5 p.m. -- that is incorrect. The event will begin at 3:30 p.m. with opening acts. Ludacris is set to perform at about the 5 p.m. mark.
Modstock 2015 will feature three-time Grammy Award-winning artist and rapper Ludacris, according to the Campus Activities Board late Wednesday afternoon.
Upcoming Harlem rapper Charles Hamilton will open the event, which will start at 3:30 p.m. on April 30 in the Mod Lot.
"Live Entertainment worked incredibly hard for countless months to help make Modstock as successful as possible," CAB Live Entertainment director Frankie Paleno, A&S '15, said. "We are so happy we can officially celebrate this announcement with the student body, and can't wait to hear Ludacris live on our own campus -- George Fabrikarakis, Austin Burns, Aya Tsuruta, Troy Heidenberg, Naveen Senthilkumar and Maneesh Vellanki all deserve a huge thank you for ensuring a successful Modstock."
5,000 free student tickets will be made available for the event, one per BC ID. The distribution process will occur over multiple days, Paleno says.
Popular for hits like "Money Maker" and "Get Back," Ludacris epitomized the "Dirty South" rap movement in the early 2000s along with artists like Big Boi and Outkast's Andre 3000. Release Therapy and its featured hit "Money Maker" earned Ludacris two Grammy Awards. His first Grammy was for "Best Rap/Sung Collaboration" in Usher's 2005 hit "Yeah!"
