Lacrosse beats Virginia in First Round of ACC Tournament

On Wednesday night, Boston College women’s lacrosse faced off against No.11 Virginia in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship tournament.

The Eagles started off strong with an opening goal from Charlotte North, but Virginia quickly responded with three goals in under three minutes.

BC headed into the tournament as the No.3 seed with a record of 12-2 in the regular season. The Cavaliers finished the regular season with a record of 8-7.

Following a rocky start to the game, the Eagles responded with seven unanswered goals to put them up 8-3 late in the first half. However, the Cavaliers were able to go on a four-goal run to bring them within one score of BC early in the second half.

Three Eagles recorded a hat trick during the game: Charlotte North, Caitlynn Mossman, and Cassidy Weeks.

North continues to dominate as she adds three more goals to bring her tally to 65 on the year.

Mossman recorded her second hat trick in only three games as she helped push the Eagles closer to the championship game.

Virginia managed to keep the game fairly close for the majority of the second half, but the Eagles' ruthless offensive efforts kept them at a comfortable distance from the Cavaliers.

BC held at least a three-goal lead in the final 15 minutes, and two goals from Cara Urbank sealed the game for the Eagles. The final score finished 16-12.

Kiki Shaw, Lillie Kloak, and Ashlyn McGovern each put in two goals for the Cavaliers in their efforts against Boston College. The Cavaliers will now look to prepare for the NCAA tournament which starts on the 14th of May.

BC will face off against the No. 2 Syracuse in the semifinals of the ACC tournament on Friday. The Eagles and the Orange faced off twice in the final two games of the regular season, as each team walked away with one win.
