A total of four Boston College football players declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. The players were TE Hunter Long, LB Isaiah McDuffie, LB Max Richardson, and DE Max Roberts.
Long was widely regarded as one of the best tight ends in the draft this year, and this was proven correct when he was the third tight end to be taken off the board. He was drafted in the third round (81st pick overall) to the Miami Dolphins. Former Eagle Brian Flores is the head coach for Miami. He played for BC from 1999-2003.
McDuffie was the next Eagle selected in the draft. He was taken in the sixth round (220th pick overall) to the Green Bay Packers. McDuffie will be reunited with former-Eagle AJ Dillon in Green Bay. A player of McDuffie’s quality and character is much needed for the Packers defense. Dillon was quite excited by the draft pick, and he sent a congratulatory tweet directed at McDuffie.
The other two players, Richardson and Roberts, were not taken in the draft, but both have since signed Undrafted Free Agent deals with their respective teams.
Max Richardson was the first one to sign, as he agreed to a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders. Max Roberts announced on Sunday morning that he had agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Rams.
Both of the deals were announced just hours after the conclusion of the draft, so it was clear that multiple teams were still on the lookout for players after the draft. Nonetheless, it is exciting to see the incredible hard work and dedication pay off for the four Eagles as they start their NFL careers.
