After an emphatic win on Friday, No. 1 Boston College defeated No. 10 Boston University in a close 2-0 match. The game was a defensive battle, as Jacob Fowler recorded his sixth shutout of the season. Despite a tense goaltending duel, Ryan Leonard continued his hot streak by scoring his fourth goal of the series, sealing the sweep against the Terriers.

On Saturday, Boston College’s loyal fan base lined up hours before puck drop, eager to grab a front-row seat to one of college sports’ most contentious rivalries. The night before, Boston College had kicked off its two-game series against the Terriers with an authoritative victory, scoring five unanswered goals in the second and third periods to secure a dominant 6-2 win. Star sophomore Ryan Leonard delivered a historic performance, netting a hat trick to lead the Eagles to an important victory.

After puck drop on Saturday, the Eagles wasted no time putting themselves on the board. In a bizarre turn of events, the Terriers started the game on a penalty kill after their goalie, Mikhail Yegorov, stepped onto the ice before the officials, resulting in a two-minute penalty. Just 20 seconds into the power play, freshman Teddy Stiga capitalized, scoring his ninth goal of the season off assists from Ryan Leonard and Lukas Gustafsson to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Despite the early offensive spark, the remainder of the game was defined by stellar goaltending and physical play. Yegorov rebounded from his early setback, stopping 23 shots and posting an impressive .958 save percentage. On the other end, Jacob Fowler stood like a brick wall in the net for the Eagles, turning away all 30 shots he faced to preserve Boston College’s narrow lead.

Thanks to Fowler’s consistency, the Eagles held onto their 1-0 advantage for nearly the entire game. With just under two minutes remaining in the third period, BU pulled Yegorov from the net in a last-ditch effort to generate some offense. However, Boston College quickly took control of the puck, and Leonard broke away from BU’s defensive line, finding himself alone with an empty net. The sophomore forward calmly tapped the puck in, securing a 2-0 victory and completing the two-game sweep of the Terriers.

With Saturday’s win, the Eagles improved to an 18-4-1 record. As the season nears its end, Boston College looks to extend its six-game win streak this Friday against No. 8 UMass Lowell.
