Coming off a loss against Boston University, Boston College faced Merrimack with hopes of rebounding. However, Merrimack had a strong start, taking control early and holding their lead until the final buzzer.
Merrimack wasted little time in jumping ahead. Just 3:16 into the first period, forward Sage Babey found the back of the net with an assist from Sophie McKinley. Merrimack then extended their lead when Maria Lindberg fired a shot past BC goalie Grace Campbell, pushing the score to 2–0. BC struggled to recover and just 22 seconds later, Natalie Nemes added another for Merrimack, making it 3–0 before the period was even halfway through. To turn the tide, BC pulled Campbell and brought in Bailey Callaway to take the reins. As the two have shared goalkeeping duties throughout the season, Callaway quickly adjusted and secured the net. Despite the early setback, BC fought back. They finally broke through when Katie Pyne lifted a shot over Merrimack goaltender Calli Hogarth’s pad, cutting the lead to 3–1.
BC came out in the second period with renewed determination. Julia Pellerin scored six minutes into the period, narrowing the Warriors’ lead to 3–2. But Merrimack responded quickly. Chloe Goofers regained a two-goal advantage for Merrimack less than six minutes later, making it 4–2.
In the third period, BC refused to back down. They continued to push offensively and, with less than 10 minutes remaining, Pellerin struck again. She fired a shot from the right side to make it 4–3. BC now had the momentum, but this wave of energy quickly dissipated as Merrimack’s Michaela Littlewood gave the Warriors some breathing room, scoring an insurance goal with just 1:18 left to make it 5–3. Despite a strong comeback effort, BC was unable to complete the rally, falling to Merrimack by a final score of 5–3; extending their losing streak to two games.
BC will look to bounce back as they take on Vermont next, with the game scheduled for February 6 at Conte Forum.
