Boston College’s biggest dance competition, the ALC Showdown, returns to Conte Forum on April 11. 17 teams will compete for the prestigious Showdown trophy and the opportunity to donate to a charity of their choice.
Hosted by the AHANA+ Leadership Council, the ALC Showdown blends high-energy choreography with cultural expression. Showdown offers a unique atmosphere of acceptance and unity as each team is encouraged to incorporate personal cultural aspects into their performances.
Each team brings its unique theme and cultural elements into their routines, reflecting the mission of the ALC (AHANA+ Leadership Council) to improve the quality of life for all AHANA+ students at BC.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. at the Conte Forum, and Showdown runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event, which sold out on March 31, draws an array of students and BC community members each year.
The reigning champions, Females Incorporating Sisterhood Through Steps (F.I.S.T.S.), return to defend their title after donating last year’s first-place earnings to Strong Women, Strong Girls. F.I.S.T.S is BC’s all-women step team founded in 1999 on the pillars of sisterhood, service, and step.
Showdown requires months of preparation, with dancers perfecting routines that reflect passion and community. BC freshman Anna, MCAS‘28, a member of BC On Tap, shared her excitement. BC On Tap is BC’s first and only tap dance group whose mission is to spread the love of tap to dancers of all levels.
“I’ve had a blast throughout the year preparing this dance with such a talented and supportive team,” Anna said. “This dynamic tap routine is packed with energy and music that will make you want to dance along with us! I can’t wait for everyone to see our performance. I know they’ll love it as much as I do!”
Student anticipation is high, with fans already picking favorites. “I have faith in MASTI,” one student remarked, referring to BC’s only Bollywood Fusion dance team. Another student added, “I think Uprising or Sexual Chocolate will win, but I hope all teams have fun!”
With flashing lights, dynamic performances, and charitable giving at its core, the 2025 ALC Showdown promises to be more than just a competition— it is a celebration of culture, community, and creativity. Get ready for an unforgettable night!
