Dear Gavel,

I am writing this as an alumnus of Boston College (PhD ’98) and the founder and first faculty advisor to the first progressive paper at BC, Naked Singularity. I am so grateful to see that the work we began at Naked Singularity is being continued through The Gavel. Thank you for what you are doing and for what you represent at BC.

I am writing regarding an article I read today (23 October) in the National Catholic Reporter about a MAGA speaker who recently addressed the BC College Republicans. You at The Gavel have done all of us who love BC a great service by calling out the College Republicans for hosting a volatile and mendacious MAGA propagandist. Inviting this MAGA extremist to BC was morally irresponsible and reprehensible. All that his words could accomplish is to fan the flames of hatred and extremism. Those responsible for this action need to be held to account. The violent rhetoric spewed at that College Republican event has no place at BC or any other serious and respectable institution of higher learning. This event and the hatred spewed there was totally inimical to the Catholic and Jesuit character and vision of BC.

Please continue the good work you are doing.
