If you were lucky, you might have seen it last week: 35 lbs of engraved silver and wood toted through the dining hall–filled with cereal–by a group of boys in matching “2026 Champions” hats.
For the first time in a decade, the men’s Beanpot is back where it belongs at our end of the Green Line.
On Monday, Feb. 2, Boston College began its annual run at the Beanpot. The Eagles faced Harvard in the semifinals and secured a spot in the championship with a 5-1 victory. James Hagens opened fire with two goals in the first period, and a power-play goal from fan favorite Dean Letourneau kept the student section excited through the second period. An uneventful third period comfortably secured the Eagles’ spot in the final.
Later that night, Boston University narrowly defeated Northeastern 3-2 in a shootout, earning a spot in the championship and turning the 73rd Dunkin’ Beanpot into the 300th Battle of Comm. Ave. The weekend leading up to the final had little to show for Boston College except a disappointing 1-6 loss at home to Vermont.
BC fans were nervous heading into Monday’s championship game after a tough loss Friday night and Boston University seemed to confirm those doubts, scoring a goal within the first two minutes. However, the Eagles bounced back at the end of the first and carried that momentum into the second period, turning the game around.
Four goals from BC went unanswered late into the third period until Cole Eiserman scored a power-play goal to cut the Eagles’ three-goal lead. The Terriers’ attempt at a comeback was futile, and Boston College secured the victory with two more goals, winning 6-2 in the men’s Beanpot.
James Hagens was named MVP of the 2026 Beanpot, and freshman Louka Cloutier received the Eberly Award for his outstanding performance in net during both rounds.
After ten long years of watching BC’s Boston rivals win the coveted tournament, it’s good to see the trophy finally return home to the Heights.
