Dear Gavel Readers,
As those interested in the progressive viewpoint, it is my pleasure to share with you the Future of Aging Summit.
The Future of Aging summit, hosted by Changemakers in Aging & the Gerontological Society of America, takes place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. The summit will convene hundreds of students, young professionals, researchers, and cross-sector leaders committed to shaping the future of aging, through political and scientific routes. Whether you are interested in biomedical research, technology, policy, advocacy, communications, or medicine, your voice is valued and needed.
It is important that people of all generations are involved in the field of aging. Many assume that gerontology solely involves the elderly. What is often overlooked is that we are one deeply interconnected society, and the state of the elderly greatly affects those of other generations. For example, trends of high quality of life in older generations puts less stress on younger generations to be caretakers, alleviating stress in families. And, policies in place for government programs designed to aid the disabled or low-income often also affect geriatric populations, i.e. Medicaid. There are countless more examples of this. Gerontological issues simply cannot be ignored.
In a time when research is being underfunded and medicaid/medicare funds are soon to run short, education and advocacy alike are becoming more important than ever.
The Future of Aging summit this year will be a not-to-miss opportunity, featuring all-star leaders in the field of aging and longevity, a first annual op-ed competition, and opportunities for meaningful connection with others in the field. We’ll also kick things off the evening before with a pre-Summit networking event, where attendees will have the chance to connect early and carry that momentum into the Summit itself.
And, cost of attendance is free for all undergraduates!
